Treddol Designs create bespoke weatherproof real slate, metal and wooden buildings/designs, principally for garden railway use.  Although the majority of the designs are built to suit 16mm and G-scale, we will undertake commissions to any scale from 7mm upwards.

The slate buildings are constructed from hundreds of individually hand-cut real Welsh slate pieces.  These slate pieces are obtained from a variety of sources, including reclaimed roofing slate and quarry waste, which are then mortared together with a cement, sand, lime and slate dust mortar.  The roofs are finished with individual miniature real roofing slates.

The corrugated metal "Colonel Stephens Style” buildings are made from recycled metal sheets with the corrugation formed by our own press tool.   All doors and barge boards are handmade from wood.  The window frames and finials are hand-cast in white metal from our original masters and moulds.

There is also a small but expanding range of lineside accessories, including handmade wood and metal station benches, fire and coal buckets (loaded with real sand and coal), metal and wooden lower quadrant signals and a selection of white metal windows and detail parts for scratch builders.

Prices for the models vary depending on the size and complexity of the design, but range from, for example, £40 for a corrugated metal permanent way hut to £320 for a large low relief slate warehouse.  Please see (brochure) for samples of designs and prices.

Delivery time varies but, for example, a large building is currently taking six months to complete from receiving confirmation of your order.  The waiting time for smaller and less complicated designs may be less depending on their size and complexity and our current workload.

All prices quoted include VAT but not delivery.  Wherever possible, we prefer to meet up and "hand over" the buildings, either at our workshop in rural North Wales or at a garden railway show.  If this is not practical, delivery can always be arranged via a courier at cost.
